An Installation
Studio 12, Gertrude Contemporary Art Spaces, Fitzroy 6 - 27 March 1999
An ongoing conversation in a reclining position on matters deep & personal extended a theme begun in 1998 in an exhibition called soft. In the earlier project, translucent cushions were painted on canvas and named after friends and colleagues of the artist, suggesting a dialogue or gathering. In conversation, the once two-dimensional representations became solid objects though still subtle and translucent. These objects floated in a darkened gallery space, released from the walls and from the scrutiny of bright spotlights. Suggesting thoughts, snatches of conversation or even thought bubbles, these suspended cushions also proffered moments of reverie, stillness and rest.
